Popular local Suzuki dealership Laguna Motorcycles is celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day with a ride-out designed to empower and encourage female motorcyclists in the community to come together.

Taking place on Saturday 5 March, the ride-out leaves Laguna Motorcycles – on Hart Street, Maidstone, ME16 8RA – at 10:00 after a 09:00 rendezvous. Heading out into the countryside the route is expected to take an hour, before arriving at the firm’s sister dealership in Aylesford.

And to ensure the event is as welcoming as possible, the selected route is 125cc and scooter-friendly, meaning new riders can also attend and enjoy the ride.

For all those taking part there will be complimentary refreshments provided after the ride, plus a free goody bag. The dealership will also showcase its extensive range of clothing and accessories, with any order placed over £50 benefiting from free home delivery, meaning no need for riders to worry about getting their purchases home.

Jasmine Collins, Laguna Motorcycles marketing assistant, said, “I can’t wait to take part and see all of the other riders that attend. I went on the back of my dad’s Suzuki in 2019, my first time riding pillion, and ever since I’ve been hooked; the feeling of leaning into corners and cutting through the air was such a thrill. This year I’ll be riding along on my 125 scooter but I’ve got my eye on a Suzuki SV650, so hopefully I’ll be on that next year, and I hope that fellow women motorcyclists see the extent of the female riding community that exists.”

Demand for motorcycles and powered two-wheelers has increased over the last two years, with one driving factor the practicality and affordability for commuters looking to avoid busy trains and buses.

Collins continued, “I’ve had such a blast learning to ride and the freedom that comes with it, but while leisure and recreational motorcycling is where I get my buzz, we’re seeing a lot of people looking for alternative, economical means of transport that gets them off buses, trains, and tubes, and scooters and motorcycles are providing that. You’re able to beat traffic queues, often park for free, save on fuel, you’re socially-distanced, and you’ve got a weekend plaything as well.”
